Review of School Days
Oh the controversy. I'm late to the scene but decided to give it a chance since it was on crunchyroll. Heard through the grapevine that this might be the worst anime so who wouldn't want to watch? Reviews on youtube are hilarious and true but if an anime can be hated so much then they did something right. Boring anime will have you forget and move on while frequently discussed anime like this will have you go on an endless rant. Basically if it's spoken of with storng opinion, there's good reason. Only 12 episodes so if you don't mind a quick binge to seethen I suggest aquiring your own opinion after tuning in. Let's begin.
(No spoilers)
As the synopsis states, Makoto Itou is our stories main character. Seemingly normal and average high school guy who listens to music on the train from and to school. Second semester comes around and new girl Katsura who is shy, soft-spoken, and quiet is now taking the train too. Infatuated with her he discreetly takes a picture of her via flip phone and arrives at school where he meets another girl Sekai who in contrary acts more like a buddy to our Makoto by her outgoing and carefree personality. She sees the picture he has taken as the busy body she is and decides to play cupid for no obvious reason. Sekai then befriends the shy Katsura and invites her to lunch with Makoto. At this moment in time the three main characters are unpredictable and complex leaving you to wonder how things will work out. Why is Sekai helping bring these two new friends of hers together? Does Katsura really like Makoto? Will Makoto be able to establish a solid relationship with Katsura? These questions take a turn for the worse quickly and the show becomes pure drama and betrayal leaving some with the desire to "smash their monitors".
I could say much more but that should suffice. The shows first few episodes are thought provoking but suddenly the show becomes relatively pointless but nevertheless entertaining if you don't take it too seriously. Can't say I'd recommend this show but if you're like me then you'll laugh at all the ridiculousness the show offers.
