Review of Durarara!!
To put it straight, Durarara!! is not flashy or extremely outlandish and many people will find this just an average anime. I can see where they're coming from: the animation isn't anything to write home about and episodes can be slow paced and uneventful compared to others. Despite all those negatives, this anime picks up the slack with its unique and clever technique it uses to deliver a spectacular narrative fitting for a story like this. What made me enjoy this anime so much was the way it lays a solid foundation for the buildup of towering tension and suspense. The way it scatters around minutedetails in the first few episodes and then recalls them later on brings together the same satisfaction as a detective bringing together all the clues to solve a case. It gives all the necessary time to place the groundwork for the mood and characters so that when something kicks off, it pulls you in in all its awe and creates quite the avalanche of interesting drama. I was literally unable to step away from the screen as episode 12 rolled around and resulted in me binging the rest of the season that night.
The turn of events was conveyed in a similar fashion of Quentin Tarantino's, Pulp Fiction, as what you were watching now would reveal to be part of a bigger and grander scheme of the plot; and for that, I rate this a 9.
