The Heroic legend of Arslan was created by the same person who created Fullmetal Alchemist (the manga) which later was adapted into 2 of the most acclaimed anime ever: Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. If the above information wasn't enough to convince you that Arslan is worth your time I will go into more detail. The best way to describe Arslan is that it is a smartly written and extremely fun adventure. For the most part, the characters are simple, but they are all likable, funny, bad ass, or just plain cool enough that you won't care that they are not the most complex charactersin the world. Watching the cast of heroes interact with each other and the adventures they go on are all fun to watch. The series does some deeper aspects like a villain with surprisingly good motivations, a lot of interesting political and strategic maneuvering, and some thoughtful commentary about our history.
The animation and music are both very good, with the exception of some CGI that looks a bit questionable, but honestly that is more of a nitpick. The show has a fun group of main characters, good action, some nice humor, some surprisingly good romance, some bad ass moments, and a lot of really fun adventure.
If you are looking for a fantasy or adventure series that knows when it has to be deep and emotional, and when it can just be an entertaining adventure then I couldn''t recommend The Heroic Legend of Arslan highly enough.
