Review of Parasyte: The Maxim
By far one of the best anime I've ever seen. Despite its sci-fi premise, the anime deals with very deep and complex themes without ever falling into the banal and this makes it unique. The characters are all excellent and their stories are all exciting: Shinici who loses himself due to his traumas and his dehumanization is dealt with very well. Kana is, perhaps, the character I feel most sorry for: one-sided love is something horrendous and his continued self-sacrifice in seeking Shinici's love is heartbreaking. Even a character you see for a relatively short time like Detective Kuramori sticks with you. The story is engaging andvery well-written with some amazing dialogues, especially between Shinici and Migi. Probably the best quality of the story is that it makes you wonder who the real monster is? The parasites who live following the laws of the animal kingdom or the men who stand above everyone else, boasting rights and privileges and destroying the planet just to stay alive?
To conclude, the music and soundtrack are fantastic. I rarely like soundtracks in films or anime, mainly because involved in the action I don't pay attention to them but this anime is different: every piece of music is perfect for the situation we are seeing and makes the scene even better.
In the end, this may not have been a perfect review (I'm not very good at describing things) but it's how felt about this anime. I'm glad this was one of the first animes I've seen.
