Review of The King's Avatar
Chinese Bootleg SAO! Will the Chinese be stopped from infringing copyrights and pay for their crimes! or they will actually... make an interesting... anime... Kastelle is back again with another review. This time its not a garbage anime rather a more interesting anime to look at. Quan Zhi Gao Shou, or King's Avatar is a really interesting anime animation style wise and story wise. Not only it actually is a good anime but it actually impresses me. Probably my expectations were low because its made in china but color me surprised, it is actually better than most anime I have seen so far thisyear. Call me biased or something like that. But to be honest this series caught me by surprise so yeah... deserve this score. Anyways let's get on it.
TL;DR = I am thoroughly impressed by this anime, character is not an overpowered 12 year old boy or anything like that. This can't be considered an Isekai but it might as well be because of the way you can view through the eyes of the characters. The thing that is lacking would be the characters and the story progression. But other than that, I would give this anime a 10/10 for impressing me with its visuals and narration.
====================================================
===Story===
Overall Story : 9
Story Progression: 7
Plots and Subplots : 9
If you read my TL;DR first before coming here and tell me I suck at reviewing well you might be right, anime review is not my job. But my opinion is somehow always right to the right tastes and to the right person. :^)
Jokes aside, I must say I am impressed with the story on how the main character goes but this is where the flaw comes in, post episode 1 or 2 the story of the main character somehow just stops. Hence why I scored the story progression kind of low since after that it is basically just improving his character in the game and keep on focusing on game strategies and tactics.
But aside from the story progression it is a really good story overall with tons of.... oh that's the problem again... huh....
===Characters===
Characters overall : 8
Character development : 7
When I say a problem is that it is a tiny problem that I find in this anime. Character overall is good, I like the shit talker from the (*blue moon?) guild, and the brawler in the main character's party, they both have defined characters with them. And then the main character is somewhat edgy to a certain extent in which he seems to be the always calm guy in video games but there are tidbits here and there where he actually shows emotion. Another problem I have is that character development seems to be really slow... at least for the last bit of the anime since we kind of let into a situation where it is more on action scenes rather than character development times. Which in my opinion kind of a bad thing to do in which my opinion means that this only focuses more towards action sequences rather than the whole story driven anime.
===Art===
Animation : 9
Art Style : 10
Overall : 10
When I say I like the animation style... I absolutely love the animation and art style (no I am not gay for this animation style and I absolutely can't date it even if I want to (also did I just assume it's gender (and why the hell there are parenthesis inside a parenthesis))).
Jokes aside (Editor's note :wow 5th time you said that in your review, nicely done), The animation style shows that it has tons of budget. First of all, its not only 2D animation we get to see but we also have 3d animation and CGI that they use for episode 11. The multimedia animating is actually really impressive but not too impressive since most of the scenes that was used was actually transition scenes. But to be honest the animation is really good.
===Sound===
OST : 8
SFX : 8
OPED : N/A
Overall Sound : 9
Generally good Ost and there's nothing I would cover here. I mean its definitely fun but its not as memorable to the likes of Log Horizon. But nonetheless it is a really good use of sounds and ost.
I don't judge the OP or ED for this one because I skipped it most of the time. Meaning that I don't actually like the OP or ED.
===Enjoyment===
Overall Enjoyment : 10
I enjoyed it. I cant say much, despite the story being lost in the 5th episode or somewhere along there, I still somehow enjoy how the characters face problems in a game rather than being focused too much on the harem part like SAO and the mistakes that SAO make. At least this somehow is a decent anime to enjoy. I just hope this series doesn't fall into the same trap like SAO in Alfheim Online.
===Genre Specials===
Jokes here and there : 9
Action sequences : 10
Gotta admit the action sequences are sleek and awesome to look at. The visuals is just... something else. I mean it is different compared to many other anime of course. And not onlythat the series is packed with humor... at least to make it more light hearted for people to enjoy. Well I did enjoy the humor sequences. So I think yeah.
===Overall===
To be honest I would rate this a 9/10 but since this is the first time I actually seen a Chinese Cartoon that is close to godlike tier like cory in the house...
ok ok enough jokes
I just feel this is a really new and refreshing title. It's not isekai but its like a slice of life that tells a story about professional gaming and professional gaming as a whole. But not only that, we actually get to see the video game action before our very own eyes and we learn the mechanics of the game just by viewing the main protagonist play.
Can't wait for Spring 2018 where they will make the season 2.
