The Band · review
Hi....have you read Beck (by Harold Sakuishi)? I recently finished re-reading Beck for the 3rd time, loved it! This is the spiritual sequel to Beck. Then I also read Rin, by the same author. I like his slice of life style mixed with comedy and youth following their dreams. If you enjoyed Beck, you'll also love THE BAND. The Band is a manga about a school kid, Yuuhei who is a loner, similar to Yukio Tanaka. But then finds a passion for the guitar. First 3-4 chapters may feel slow, especially if you are hoping for instant Beck-like magic. BUT, then it slowly takes off. Again you'll findlovable characters, real-life struggles, slapstick comedy that'll keep you wanting for more. The story keeps getting better and bette.
So far, I've read 17 chapters, and I already live this series. As time progresses, the kids get bigger, I'm very excited to see how they'll turn up and what kind of band they'll make.
So far I haven't found too many music/band realted series that are so good.
A few good ones-- Kids on Slope, Kono Oto Tomare, Beck.
Art 8/10
Harold style, but modern. More clean. But I'm waiting for more koyuki-style, wallpaper style panels.
Characters 9/10
I'm loving these guys. Want to see them perform.
Enjoyment 9/10
So far, I can't stop reading. Just want more chapters.
Overall 8/10
I want to give 9, but it is too soon. This story has amazing potential.
Highly recommended for anyone who enjoyed reading Beck! Big bonus: you'll find references to Saito-san and Dying Breed in this manga!!!! And more.....
