Review of [Oshi No Ko]
(this is more of a personal review, just for my own logging) What I liked: - The first episode is mostly phenomenal. A few hiccups here and there, but as an adaptation of the manga, there was only so much that could be done. The supernatural elements kept me glued to the screen, while the reality of the world both made it a bit more tame, but digestible. - Cool step into the idol and entertainment industries - felt similar to the feelings I got while watching Shirobako, in a way that I was learning about industries I consume from and what makes them that way. - Art styleis crazy good. There are only so many ways that we see anime as 'good-looking,' but this show tries it's best to an an extra 10% to it's already 100% 'good-looking' anime artstyle IMO.
- Character interactions and struggles were generally really enjoyable, and the relationships are definitely fun to watch. I prefer the supernatural elements and story, but going the romcom route definitely helps broaden this shows reach and appeal to many others.
- The first half of the season should've been my favorite, but the middle-half definitely had me the most addicted. The drama elements got a lot more real and touched bases with the first episode really well. Definitely recommend watching the show up until this point to see if it sticks with you!
- Idol is a banger
What I disliked:
- The romcom elements are alright - I hope it focuses less on those in the future, and more on the story (and Aqua's goals).
- Ruby feels very insignificant compared to Aqua at the moment, and that story feels like it clashes pretty heavily with Aqua's IMO
- Give me some more boy characters please
- Whenever it's a Ruby or idol focused episode, it feels like the story comes to halt, unless you're watching the show for the romcom elements? I mean this in the most non-disrespectful way lol
