Review of BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
Bofuri was a fun, easy show to watch! It kind of feels like if you took the vibe of "That Time I Got Reincarnated Into a Slime" and applied it to "Shield Hero" in a spunky sort of way. Bofuri is about a girl who starts up an MMORPG and doesn't want to get hurt, so she maxes out her defense stat. That, alone, is a hilarious concept to introduce to an anime like this. I hesitate to call it an isekai, since they're just playing the game... oh well. It's a fun concept that I feel was interesting to watch, considering the cute slice-of-lifefeel of the show.
The characters are neat enough, and sometimes it feels good to just watch some crazy OP nonsense without a lot at stake. It's cute without being too fan-service-y, the character designs are fairly interesting, and it has decent pacing.
Bofuri is not necessarily "boring" per se, however it's not riveting or exciting by any means. It's a decent show, but it doesn't go beyond that. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't my favorite of the season. Still, if you're looking for something with a quirky concept and a fairly fun spin on regular isekai tropes, Bofuri might be a nice change of pace!
