Akira is one of those movies that you just HAVE to watch, it beautiful and complex in so many ways you wouldn't even think it was made in the 80's. The movie immediately captures your attention with its stunning visuals, and opens with the famed motorcycle scene. The plot continues to develop from there in various directions, which might be hard to keep up with, but after watching Steins; Gate this seemed fairly easy to follow. The plot touches on social disruption and government corruption, two things still very evident in our world today. The two main characters, Kaneda and Tetsuo, have their own great developments throughoutthe movie, and their relationship does come full circle at the end.

To finish off, i really think anyone who is into anime at all should give this movie a shot. There are so many scenes throughout the movie that I connect to some of my other favorite shows ( Tetsuo's personality change as he gains power reminds me a lot of Eren from AOT / Tetsuo's metal arm and the plot's link to existentialism reminds me a lot of FMAB ). If you dislike the pacing of the movie I honestly didn't think it was that bad, since there was always some action or amazing visuals to make up for it.

Watch it!!
