Review of Black Clover
It's over, after over a year when it should've ended, it's over! No, I'm not saying it should've ended because it's bad, but rather, for the staff man. Y'know, this anime would be better off as a seasonal anime or something. Black Clover has some of the worst comedy though. No question. Plus, I can completely understand why people dislike or like this anime Black Clover, how can I put this.. it's somewhat like a bag of carrots, where the carrots aren't even that good at all (rather they're not that great (bad) lol). But, before you drop this bag in the garbage, you stupidly take anothercarrot giving it another chance, and coincidentally, that carrot actually taste superb..? Like, genuinely good, so you eat the rest of the bag thinking there'll be something of that caliber, but honestly. you might regret that. Because there were maybe 2 carrots that tasted actually good out of the 9, but you might not be entirely sure about that other one. It just tasted a bit better than the other 7. This great carrot or whatever is none other that Arc 8, the Elves Reincarnation Arc, which officially spans from episodes 94-157, but you can just say it actually spans to the 94-120/130ish episodes range. This, was the best thing BC has made and I think that will be the only amazing thing it made, who knows though? I'm stupid enough to keep eating the carrots, hoping it will be anywhere near that caliber of that specific carrot. Maybe not, but I'm still hoping!
Though, the last few episodes were actually pretty good. Because I was engaged and found the arc a bit interesting, and a main reason I did was because of the introduction of Nacht Faust. We may have just met him, but he's already one of the best characters in the series (I'm an anime-only so I don't know if I'll dislike him later in the future adaptations)!
But honestly, BC is a mess of things, cliche, and all of that. It can be tiring on how much of a shounen this anime is with all these plot convenience and whatever. Is it worth your time watching 93 episodes for it to get good for like 30 episodes, just for it to dip in quality by a whole lot, just for it to go back up, not even by a lot, just only a little bit? Depends, if you enjoyed the first 10 episodes, I'd say yes. If not, probably ain't worth your time. I mainly watched this show because there are moments where I'm hating the story, but enjoying it. Though it can feel like it drags on for a while and certain points. So yeah. Mainly outta enjoyment purposes and cause I first started watching this a year ago.
The last dozen episodes had some bad episodes, but it had its fair share of great ones too. Like the last 3 episodes especially were all great, ep 168-170 were super fun and actually great episodes. Won't lie.
Now, thinking about it. I was just getting into anime, so maybe my opinion on it being enjoyable shouldn't be taken too seriously.. not sure.
~ Story: (5.5/10)
In a world where everybody has magic, we met twins who one has magic and the other, lol no. First time that happened! They also rivals btw, and uh, ones insanely powerful (not the mc), and the other one has to catch up to him lol. It turns out, Yuno, who has insanely amazing magical power isn't even a twin, he's royalty! Amazing, so no hope for those who aren't royalty, they get weak power always, so it's just "No hope for those who arent royalty, sucks if u arent tho!"
Though, it was a nice reveal won't lie, mainly cause I wasn't expecting that.. and I'm lazy. If you think I'm going to go more in-depth, nah.
Now, the story isn't mediocre. The anime isn't either, infact, I put the anime at a 6, when in truth, it's a 5.75/10. It's mainly here because of some fair arcs (Arc 3, 4, 5, and 9.), and one great/good arc (Arc 8), all the others were mid or just bad. No arc I felt was anything lower than a 4/10. plot isn't something unique either, you probably heard of something very similar. There are moments in this show where after an episode ends, it leaves you raising an eyebrow, wanting to know what will happen next, and then moments where you ask yourself, "When will this show enddddd?!" (ended the day of this review) There are good and bad moments, more bad than good though.
~SIDENOTE~
All the arcs were enjoyable to me though, most of them are bad story-wise. Though, I will say, I watched this show for almost a year now, so it could be a bias maybe. I started actually getting into anime like in very late 2019, Dec maybe, and was gone for most of March, so I came back on like March 18th, and started watching Black Clover 2 weeks after, so idk how to rate this fairly. Might rate it lower if I started watching this yesterday, not sure.
~ Art: (7/10)
The art is just good, there are moments where the art is a 8.5/10, next moment, a 2-3/10. It's terribly inconsistent, kind of like Dr. Stone: Stone Wars, but that's a bit more consistent. But, their staff only had to work like on 1-2 cours per season, while BC didn't. Not much to say here, all-in-all, the artwork is definitely pretty good. Props to the staff.
Last dozen of episodes, the art was pretty great cause it was consistent. But soon, some fight scenes were just "ok, why is the art like this?" cause they had little time and maybe low budget and it seriously looked like it was done in moments, or as soon as possible because they needed to submit the episode in 3 minutes time. Still, some episodes looked great, like ep. 169 for example looked great in general.
~ Sound: (8.5/10)
For some characters, it sounds like they got a random stranger off the street and just said, "yo, buddy, wanna work on an anime?" and for others, they choose a fitting voice actor. No disrespect to any of their work though, it's just that their voice doesn't fit the characters too well imo.
But the sounds as in like OSTs, OPs&EDs, and stuff like that? It's damn GREAT! Probably out of all the more new-gen animes, it has some of the finest music, yknow? If I heard any of that, no complaints from me there. It's a nice listen. Maybe a 9.25/10 there. Really like the OSTs and stuff.
But don't let that be the reason you watch this show. If you want an ok show at best, 10/10 sound, 9/10 visuals, watch Classroom of the Elite (unless if you want a great story, read the light novels for Classroom of the Elite, bad adaptation).
~ Characters: (5.25/10)
Probably the worst part of the show. Characters like Yami, Nacht Faust, and the Wizard King are actually pretty damn good characters. But that's it.
Asta is just "AGGGGUUHH! AHHHHH!!!" -- Nothing really noteworthy about him too, don't hate him though
Noelle is just "BAKASTA! (oh god i hope he loves me)" -- Sure, she's cute. Okay? But still just a typical tsundere with atleast some difference than all the others.
Luck isn't bad, but all he is like is: "Haha! Fight me" -- Can be a fun character, but y'know, just "FIGHT ME!! FIGHT ME!!" bit annoying
Yuno is just "I'm silent person, so im cool or something" -- we barely even know him too, just that he's Asta's rival.
Characters here are probably one you've seen before, quite a bit of the characters aren't that bad at all, actually pretty decent or even good. But the majority of them, or important ones, well. They just either shit or okay..
Charmy is just a terrible character though, idc. I don't need to go on, or rather, I don't want to.
~ Enjoyment: (7.75/10)
I started this anime a year ago, 1 year ago, I had maybe less than 1.5 weeks of anime watched? (For reference, I have nearly 11 at the time of writing) So, seeing something like this, I was hooked because I found it enjoyable. But I have no memories of this being a bad show, but same with a great show with an amazing story, just mainly fun. If somebody told me, BC is damn fun and has some good arcs, I'm giving this a 7-8. I wouldn't argue cause I can kinda understand that anything higher is just a damn no.
Recently, however, I haven't found it that fun at all, some good moments, but more
or less, it can feel like a chore, but I can 100% see why somebody can enjoy the fuck outta this. Just not fun for me anymore, though I did enjoy the last 4 episodes and the beginning of Arc 9.
~ Overall: (5.75/10)
Overall, it's not mid, but it ain't exactly not mid. I'm too lazy to make my review good or whatever, just gonna make it passable because i'm tired and I just wanted to make this review for ??? reason. idk why i made this, thats all. have a good day, and this review jus my opinion, yall entitled to your own.
