Mermaid Boys · review
I understand why this manga was dropped by the publisher because it might be the worst thing I have ever read. My main problems: - There isn't a single likeable character. Everyone is either a pervert or stupid or both. I'm under the impression that this was a comedic choice, but its not even funny. - Naru is a questionable person at best, but all of the "rivals" are worse than him and somehow he's always in the wrong? There are multiple moments that are supposed to make you sympathize with Loa or Arashi but they've both tried/succeeded to assault Nami multiple times, which makes that aweeeee bit difficult.
- Moana is a doormat with no other real character traits. She doesn't have much other purpose than to create fake tension.
- Nami is a doormat that lets men try to assault her even though she's shown multiple times that she's very capable of self defense (haha so funny you've kicked Neru through yet another window).
- The main plot seems to be completely overlooked at times because there were multiple moments when Neru absolutely should have died and didn't because the characters are just too stupid?? I guess??
- Nobody's motivations are ever explained and everyone hates everyone when it's convenient to add story tension.
- Neru is 21 and Nami is like 15. He physically ages down in human form but that helps absolutely nothing.
- Super forced miscommunication that's resolved so horribly
- So much wasted potential because the bonus content in volume one shares the original story plan which was MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT WAS PUBLISHED.
Great read if you want to oogle hot men though.
