It Was All a Mistake · review
I'm writing a review here since I saw the only two reviews in this page are bad and honestly as avid romance reader and also someone that read a lot of bad and mediocre stories I think those reviews are rash. This is overall a good story, it does have problems but for the target audience and the length is unique and well done. There is a light spoilers in my review so read with caution ▶Story: Story follows our main protagonist Durua Valrose and the male lead Nocturne Edgar. It starts as your typical reincarnation story but the end has a "unique" twist. The story pacingcan be odd at times, I felt the beginning was a bit rushed and then there were parts in the middle that I needed to check if I skipped any. However once you understand what happened in the story it's just a nice, sweet romance and fantasy story. It's not a deep or complicated story, there are an main villain in this story and one issue the protagonist needs to deal/solve. Also by the end it's nice to see the live after everything is settle. I like romance manhwas that shows a bit of fluff after everything is done and not just cut 1 chapter for an "happy ending".
Maybe this story didn't have to be so long but 130 chapters for a manhwa is nothing and yeah some parts drags but honestly there are big and more famous titles that has it much worse.
Read this is you want a nice fluff fantasy story
▶Tropes and stereotypes:
Miscommunication - like that's the worse offender here. To a degree this trope is explained by the story - spoiler - she has some issues with her memories hence the confusion. However if the characters would communicate a bit better I guess half of their problems could've been solved lol Now it's hard to say this is a issue since 99% of romance manhwas that's the entire plot device so not surprised here.
Not triangle love - this story has really no triangle love interest or other male that will fall for the protagonist. Technically in the beginning but it's very clear that the other guy is just a friend and he has a love of his own for another person.
No Political drama - for a historical drama there is no drama when it comes to the kingdom - Although Nocturne is a duke there is no fight to the throne, no problems in terms of the political spectrum of the world building. There will be other issues but it's more a personal issue and the protagonist needs to solve it. I thought that was a bit of fresh air.
Light violence - Also not a lot of fighting, killing, blood or issues - so if you are not a fan of violence I think this will do it.
▶Characters:
To be honest I believe all main characters are very decent and well written. I honestly think the female protagonist is the one with the "most issues" but still I think her characters is very consistent overall and understandable.
The main female protagonist is your typical too nice and a bit dumb characters. However her happy and innocent personality ties a lot of the plot in this story. She can be annoying and clueless some parts but once she gets it the story doesn't drag long. I think her character makes sense for being the second daughter where she can be carefree and just a happy bubbly personality. Also once you get to the part of what happened to her - trying to not spoil much here - you get why she was a bit rude/indecisiveness etc
Nocturne Edgar your Male protagonist is also very consistent within the story and develops very well. Typical cold/doesn't trust others grows into depending on more people and asking for help. He is very sweet and also looking at everything he went through and all he can do, it makes sense.
The side characters all have a reason to exist, integrates well to the story and helps both protagonist to succeed while also getting good endings as well. All characters are consistent, well written for their roles and have a function.
▶Romance:
The main reason to read manhwas like this is for the romance and I assure you it's cute and fluffy. Again not a brilliant story and relationship but a cute couple that both complement each other. Both have weaknesses and they try to be better. One thing I enjoy in this manhwa is the after the conflict is resolved you have plenty of fluff story to check and see what the couple is doing. Maybe it was even a bit rushed but since their are childhood sweethearts it's understandable.
My critic is she gets pregnant way to soon for her age LOL like girl - enjoy life a bit.
▶Artwork:
I think it's a mix this manhwa. I always thought it has some beautiful art style when I was reading but I recently picked up again and realize in the beginning it can be very blend? The last quarter of the story I think the style really improves it but in the beginning it felt like they were all side characters from other stories - this critique is towards the drawing it self, each character is unique is just sometimes all females or males suffers from "having the same face". If it's not the hair color and style deep down all characters looks the same. It's a 6 years old manhwa at this point
▶Personal Points and Critics:
- This is suppose to be a quick fluffy consistent read, nothing complex or extraordinary
- Protagonist is too nice and innocent at times - not your typical powerful, machiavellic, strategic villainess. She is not dumb or in the "mercy of the male protagonist". I think you will have a much better time rooting for the male protagonist then caring for the female
- There were some potential lost with the world building and making more deep complex topics but I also like the story and characters didn't try to be complex so it's fine.
- She is too young to be pregnant like wtf guys use a condom
- Good pacing and story flow
▶Pregnancy:
Not very early but as soon "things are good" she gets pregnant... Like come on have some vacation first
