Words cannot describe how much I adore this manga. It’s light hearted, sweet, fluffy and just overall wholesome. Yuri is a closeted gay teenager who keeps falling in love with straight guys while Ogasawara is a marine biology nerd who has everything in a marine theme. The setting is unique and the characters are relatable and likeable. Out of the two, Ogasawara is my probably my favourite manga character so far I just love whatever is wrong with him. He is not judgemental at all and even goes along with Yuri’s sea creature fantasy. An overall endearing character with a heart of gold, minds hisown business, and always does his best. The mangaka did a great job of portraying his excitement for marine life with vivid expressions and great details shown in his accessories and room. He genuinely makes you wanna be a better person.
The part where he was dropping the ways marine creatures mate while having sex took me out, it had no business being funny, it just shows how much he cares in his own little quirky way.
The pacing was great, reading the synopsis and title I expected a horny teen romance but it had more emotional depth and complexity than I expected. The fish references were funny and I am surprised I learned more about marine life from a yaoi than any aquarium I have been to. I do wish we get a 2nd volume exploring more from Ogasawara’s pov because most of the manga took place from Yuri’s perspective, it would have been hilarious to see more fish references and analogies as he tries to figure out his feelings.
Do check this gem out, especially someone who thinks having hyper fixations or “weird” hobbies makes you not normal.
