Scissor Sisters · review
This is basically a Magical Girl parody with a lot of references to Sailor Moon or other Magical Girl shows (at least in the German translation, I don't know about the original version). One of the characters even looks similar to Sailor Moon and has a similar personality. So prepare for a story that doesn't take itself seriously at all. I mean, they fight hair loss aliens with magical hair salon equipment. There are some more serious moments, but the majority of it is comedy. It also has more of an episodic structure, which is quite fitting for a story like this. I had alot of fun with it. It's very funny in my opinion and it made me laugh. I loved the references and the absurd premise, as well as the self-ironic humor.
My only complaint is that there's not a real ending. It doesn't end with a cliffhanger though, the story of the last chapter comes to a conclusion, but it's obvious that the overarching plot isn't finished (like, there are still undefeated villains). I assume this manga was discontinued. It's a pity, I actually would've loved to read more of it.
The characters could have been more interesting, but they work fine for a comedic story like this. Some of them are quite likeable in my opinion, others are just kind of... there, and we don't learn a whole lot about them. I suppose that would've been different if there were more chapters.
I would recommend Scissor Sisters to people who like Magical Girl shows and want to see a comedic take on it.
