Tokyo Revengers is perhaps one of the few new gen anime which don't need fight scenes and animation to carry the show every damn season it has a very simple plot about a young boy named Takemichi who wanted to be a delinquent trying to save his ex-Girlfriend Tachibana Hinata by going back in time when he was 15 using his special abilities as a time-leaper, Takemichi manages to make some new friends in Manjiro Sano aka Mikey , Ryuguji Ken aka Draken, Matsuno Chifuyu and slowly fix his life all while trying trying to save Toko Manji gang, the gang led by Manjiro from becominga criminal group and his dream girl Hinata from death.
now that the intro is done
Tokyo Revengers has a very neat and tidy plot for the most part in the first season it shows us what unacknowledged and unprivileged youth can become in Japan and since Delinquents were very common in Japan during the 90s and the 2000s so it's a pretty good piece of reference by Ken Wakui. throughout the plot of the first season Takemichi the low-level runt who always wanted to be the top delinquent but could never become one manages to make a name for himself after getting involved in 2 incidents just for the noble purpose of saving his friends without even realising it, The story is very well built up and the pay-off from both the arcs in the first season are very satisfying compared to most Shonen that I have watched, with rollercoaster emotions showing us that even Delinquents are human beings and they too have feelings and reason behind their actions both in the anime and IRL as well.
Tokyo Revengers truly shows that all is not lost and it's never too late to change yourself and your way of living and there will always be someone for you to lean back on,
also the cliffhanger of S1 was perfectly directed with the whole Takemichi and Kisaki scene
the characters of this show are mostly kids who age between 15-18, these characters are very enjoyable and compelling whenever they are onscreen whether it be fighting or just merely interacting with each other most of these kids have a distinct mission in why they wanna be delinquents, and it's that drive that makes them compelling as characters in general. the dynamics between these characters is insanely well executed especially between Mikey and Ken (but the one Baji Keisuke and Matsuno Chifuyu is also noteworthy)
Ryuguji Ken in particular is a very well defined character when it comes to his motives and background with Tokyo Manji gang and his relationship with other side characters is also well explored and well written , we haven't seen Manjiro's or anyone else's backstory in the first season but their characters and the way they interact with other characters in a world full of delinquents is very relatable the entire theme of Tokyo Revengers's season 1 is that everyone needs a back to lean on and I guess this theme will be used in the following seasons as well as this anime explores a whole new dimension for Shonen it's sprinkled with deep emotions and moments.
The art is not the best and the designs seem somewhat mediocre because of the low-quality animation for a lot of the episodes hopefully it gets better in the 2nd season
the Opening is a masterpiece with exceptional themes and animation and a very well directed music video and the endings were amazing as well and addicting.
overall TR is one of the best new gen anime.
