Those who watched the first season of Kobayashi's Dragon Maid will have few problems imagining how this one plays out – while introducing an extra chaos dragon to the main cast, it generally plays things extremely safe, arguably with even fewer major events and drama, and more lighthearted tone. This means, it's even more of a slow slice-of-life anime and will appeal mostly to fans of the genre. That being said, there are some improvements from season one. I found the fanservice a bit less obnoxious here, with Lucoa in particular receiving some subtle character development and fun scenes outside of being a one giant sexualharassment joke. And in general, "subtle character development" is the name of the game here. While not much changes at first glance, you can genuinely feel the relationships between Kobayashi and Tohru, and between Tohru and Elma mature. We get more backstory and insight into the other world, showing a lot more depth to the whole chaos/harmony divide and the way both sides treat each other. And everything on top of that is still beautifully drawn, cute and funny – just good times all throughout.

If I had to nitpick, I'm not sure the new lore was as profound as it tried to be and the whole season lacks super-memorable moments on the level of Tohru's battle with her father. It's solid all-thruoghout, but never reaches the epic, 10/10 territories. Also, the yuri stays as ambiguous as ever, while I hoped for a slightly stronger punchline in this regard. For fans of the series though, it's a solid 9/10.
