Spoiler warning

This review may discuss plot details.

My Opinion & Recommendation – Boku no Gal ga Naru Made (Before My Girlfriend Became My Girlfriend) Boku no Gal ga Naru Made is a beautiful romance manga that manages to be both emotional and grounded. What starts as a simple school romance with a gal heroine slowly becomes a heartfelt story about trust, honesty, and the fragile balance that keeps a young relationship together. The manga impressed me with how realistically it handles its characters. Instead of relying on clichés or unnecessary fanservice, it focuses on genuine emotions—misunderstandings, insecurities, difficult decisions, and moments where both partners must choose communication over confusion. Nao and Remi grow as individuals, and the manga never paints either of them as purely right or wrong. It respects its characters enough to let them mature.

If you enjoy romance stories that feel real, relatable, and emotionally honest, this series is something you should definitely pick up.

Story / Plot Overview (Spoiler-Free)

The story follows Nao and Remi, who begin dating after Remi’s bold confession. Their early days of romance are sweet, awkward, and youthful—yet the manga doesn’t stay superficial. As the plot progresses, the characters encounter emotional obstacles that test their trust:

Misunderstandings caused by fear and immaturity

Social pressure and outside influences

Past relationships and unresolved feelings

The struggle to understand what “love” truly means at their age

Instead of going for cheap drama, the story shows how both of them learn, reflect, and try to protect what they care about. It’s a sincere portrayal of two people trying to hold onto their relationship as they navigate emotional hurdles.

A Personal Note

I genuinely love this manga, and that makes it even more heartbreaking that it will remain unfinished due to the untimely passing of the mangaka, Shino-sensei.
It’s truly unfortunate that we will never see the full ending that he had envisioned. I can only hope that wherever he is now, he is at peace and happy.

RIP Shino-sensei.
Thank you for creating such a beautiful and touching story. Your work will continue to live in the hearts of your readers.

Final Recommendation

Even though the series is incomplete, I still strongly recommend it. The emotions, the sincerity, the character growth—everything feels genuine and heartfelt.

I honestly hope that someday, a studio will adapt it into an anime as a tribute to both the story and the mangaka, even if the original work remains unfinished. It would be a wonderful way to show respect for the narrative and for Shino-sensei’s creativity.

A touching romance, a sincere story, and a heartfelt legacy.
If you value meaningful character-driven romance, this manga is absolutely worth reading.
