Mother Parasite · review
Are you a fan of soap operas? Stories about people who don't act anything like real people, getting into ridiculous drama and over-the-top freak outs that'd be resolved in real life with a second of thought? Do you like sociopath protagonists who act like possessed dolls who always seem to escape all consequences, either by stupid ass-pulls or by just fixing it off screen? Do you like stories where every woman is so easily manipulated into obsessing over new men and abandoning their biological sons that it feels like a PSA made by a paranoid boy who hates his new stepdad? Then this story maybe for you.
If not... Well the story may still be for you actually. It's the manga version of a telenova, so goofy and ridiculous that you're not really meant to be doing any deep introspections on character motives or themes. The manga exists for you to laugh at it and to keep turning the pages to see what stupid twist will happen next. The main character burns a woman's house down and tries to kill her infant triplets and the last time we saw her in the manga she's trying to guilt trip him into letting her adopt him. The stinger for the last chapter I could find is him about to seduce a grandmother. It's so stupid but so funny, a complete trainwreck that you can't look away from.
If you have a few hours to kill and want to read something that'll make you chuckle while you groan, give it a shot. If you want to do something better with the short time we have on this earth, maybe read something else.
