Basically, this follows a familiar idea for this genre, with Chen Ping’an starting from a weak position and slowly entering a much bigger world. What makes it stand out is how it tells that story. It begins in a small town that seems normal at first, but over time you realize it has deeper meaning. Instead of rushing into fights or quick power-ups, the series builds tension through the arrival of strong outsiders, hidden intentions, and the importance of the town itself. Even when parts of the story are predictable, they still work because everything follows clear and consistent rules. I also enjoyed the art style. There are action scenes, but they are not the main focus, and they are handled in a way that fits the slower pace. However, the characters are the highlights of this. Chen Ping’an is not naturally overpowered. He relies on effort and understands his own limits. His choices show both his strengths and his weaknesses, and his growth feels earned.
The pacing will not work for everyone. A large part of the season focuses on setting things up, including the importance of the town and the introduction of key characters. It can feel slow, but this setup makes later parts of the story stronger. So if you are okay with steady character growth and a slower story, consider it.
