Kaina of the Great Snow Sea · review
This is the most underrated show of the season. The world in which the story takes place is a world covered in a "snow sea" which true to the name looks like snow at the surface and behaves much like an ocean. The giant spire trees cover the world with a transparent canopy and provide societies with water, but for some reason they're drying up and those on the surface are warring against eachother over the scarce resource that water has become. The main character, Kaina, lives in a tiny village isolated from the rest of the world at the top of one of thespire trees. When a princess from the surface narrowly escapes death by fleeing to the canopy, Kaina becomes involved in the ongoing conflict. It's a fantastic story which avoids most of the usual anime tropes while introducing an incredible new world as the characters struggle to bring an end to the conflict. If you're looking for something unique, love detailed worldbuilding, unusual characters, and underdog stories, then this anime is for you. If you can't handle 3D animation, sorry to say that this anime is fully 3D. The opening and ending songs are also fantastic.
