Review of The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess
Cute girls doing cute things in a military/war environment, in a world where nobody can actually die. as they get revived, with a bit of gore put in it that was unexpected (at least for me). This story took me by suprise a bit in the sense that I did not expect it to be so goreish in some episodes. It was a welcomed one tho, as I enjoy such things. The story is along the lines of a young girl gets put as a general to lead a small army made of criminals into battles, battles which are mostly for entertainment cuz in that worldnobody can actually die, they get revived. But she is a lazy bum and wants to be a shut in (for a reason, typical one tho). This leads to a lot of comedic moments. Also she thinks less of herself, when she shouldn't, but I won't say more as it would be a spoiler. Has potential when it comes to the plot, alas it is a pretty underdeveloped plot, as in I feel like it's a bit too basic when it comes to what happens in that world and how it is portraited. From what I read, this covers the first 3 light novels, and the anime has 3 main arcs. These arcs though are unfortunately following the same idea when it comes to the villain (one of the villains) of the arc: my actions are justified because I have a sad/ugly background... also they feel repetitive a bit with not that many things being added to the story overall. Feels like they are arcs of introducing characters, but for a 12 episodes anime, it is a bit too much to spend so much time on this. Of course, as a pretty standard story, you have the evil world organization that wants to destroy the artefacts that make ppl get revived. There were bits and pieces that show that this organization has an interesting view in that world, but again, not worked on. Instead you have mostly the main vilains that follow the basic villain archetype that you see in typical stories.
In term of characters and their interactions, you have a comedy and yuri. MC is the shut in that doesn't want to do much but is dragged into it, the maid which is a simp for her and wants to help her, and the rest of the cast that comes and goes or just stays always in the background to enable the MC to be more fleshed out. Can't say some characters really made an impression on me. There were moments where they seem to try to make an emotional moment, but it wasn't very well put together or just came out of nowhere. Certain moments also feel rushed/unfinished in animation and pacing, which takes a bit from the build up. The MC also has edgy shounen moments, which are sometimes animated pretty nicely.
Story: 7 -- Too basic and typical, the type of story that you guess the whole arc once you caught how the author thinks. Also the world and background is not fleshed out at all.
Art: 8 -- Art is pretty nice overall, but there are moments where it lacks quite a bit, especially the more you go towards the end.
Music: 9 -- The ED is one of my fav songs rn. The type of song to listen on a walk at night. The OP is okayish.
Characters: 7 -- Okayish characters, but nothing to say it was great or nice... can't even say I have a favourite character.
Enjoyment: 7 - The arcs kinda become too repetitive in terms of what to expect, so it became a bit of a drag to finish. The comedy was hit or miss for me.
Overall: 7

I would recommend this anime to people that want to watch a comedy yuri anime with a bit of serious/gore moments from time to time, but that won't expect to be blown away by the overall plot. It is just an average watch from my perspective, and because of that I cannot fully recommend it, as it feels like you won't gain much by watching it.
