Review of Dan Da Dan
This for me was a very eccentric yet somehow fun anime to watch; If DanDaDan was a dish, I feel like its chef just shoved a bunch of random ingredients on the cooking pot, hoped for the best, and it somehow turned out edible lol. I wouldn't say it was 'terrible' but it definitely took me some time to wrap my head around it. That's what at least think of, for Season 1. Animation (8/10) - I think the show did a good job of being expressive in terms of its animation and color palette selections. The characters have fluid and distinct movements especially on fightscenes, showcases vibrant hues that projects the characters' emotions and situation effectively during some particular, intense moments. I have no complaints and I think it was one of the best aspects they have within the show's entirety.
Storyline (5.5/10) - The storyline's a bit over the place lol; One episode they're fighting ghosts, the other they're fighting aliens. I feel like the characters lack purposes and the progression bit of the story is too straightforward as well. I can't really decipher what they're trying to establish ultimately in general, especially with their newfound powers (aside from retrieving Ken's golden balls) but... to say the least I would say it's not boring lol;
It has a mix of shounen romance, action, comedy, slice-of-life and a bit of some well-written drama too, especially on that episode where one of the protagonists' friends, Aira, absorbs the power of the ghost that stalks her. They did a masterful job, creating that particular line of the story. I just wish it would've been more consistent, being impactful like that. But right now its scattered, and they could use a more commanding direction and coherence on how the story would progress itself in the long run lol.
Music (7/10) - Its library somehow reminds me of the Persona (video game) franchise in terms of its overall vibe; Although it lacks variety in genre due to its limited number of records, it does well heavily investing and combining J-Pop and Electronic tracks altogether. Very atmospheric especially on heavy action scenes and their OST is lowkey catchy for what it is. So props to that.
Overall - 6.83 out of 10
