Many reviewers will claim that this show tries too hard to be philosophical and tries too hard to tackle x, y and z without ever succeeding. That's true, it doesn't really succeed at those things. But I think there is a good misunderstanding here in that it never particularly tries to do those things. It will state something, maybe pose a question with an in-character answer (nothing general or analytical or even true for someone else of a different perspective) but it never makes more of the supposition than has been explicitly said or shown. It doesn't "insist upon itself" (sorry) because it is justitself and it doesn't do any insisting. That's all the show really is: a decently interesting cast, an interesting problem with a narratively-engaging path to the solution - not many double meanings, just the complexity of the world as it has been simplified, filtered down, by the human-feeling characters and how they see the world. So a fairly simple world.

So no, the show doesn't try to hard to be philosophical or deep. Can it be? If you want it to be. If you are looking for some in-depth analysis of some great questions, this show probably won't give you that, even if it seems like the type of show that might give you that.

It's a good show with interesting characters, interesting moments and an interesting story, that's all.

The art and so forth is all excellent, I personally wish it did have a little more of a stronger theme but it's fine that it doesn't. 8/10.
