Review of Suzume

I have seen three Makoto shinkai movies, Garden of words, your name, weathering with you and now this one. If you like his style then this a no brainer. It is a very fun movie. Presentation: Again no brainer here, its fucking great. Radwimps again was good, and animation was really vivid. I will say I still think Garden of words is shinkai's best looking movie. This does lean a bit towards a bit more of a typical animation style compared to shinkai's usual style with a lot more 2d animation compared to something like garden of words, still really great. Writing: the script is snappyand tight. No slow moments. Its kind of funny and cute. It is a great road trip adventure movie with a heavy emphasis of fantasy. I love a great sense of adventure in movies and this scratched that itch. I feel his last two movies were more supernatural and pseudo fantasy whereas this movie goes all in with the fantastical themes which works really well. I like all the details and plot devices regarding the fantasy elements, all very engaging and cool. There was one weird thing plot device that seemed to not make sense, maybe it was something i missed, its got something to do with a cat for those wondering. I also felt the climax was a bit underwhelming, still solid though. The subplot regarding the main character's mother could have been a bit more fleshed out but still works for the most part.

Overall just a fun movie it wont change your life but you will have a good time watching it. I watched with a friend who doesnt watch anime and he liked it a lot. So yeah go check it out, in theaters is recommended.
