Horimiya (2021) What a beautiful anime to have witnessed with a story of self-acceptance. As with any show, not everyone will love it. As with any show, they cannot adapt absolutely everything and that will annoy some people. As with any show, it is down to how you feel. The story on this is a true coming of age drama with a dark beginning that is shown throughout the show that sets up this amazing storyline. Izumi Miyamura is a protagonist that has suffered and many can identify like him. He has had a bad start to his social life and got stuck in the issueof everyone has already made friends. This show has the way he comes out of it. It could have gone the other way and if you believe in a world that fulfils every possibility then who knows what would have happened otherwise. You also have Kyouko Hori a girl who is smart, intelligent and not all that meets the eye. In the end, this show is one of many routes the source has of various couples following one such couple deeply and hinting at others.

The art of this show is just lovely to see. I love how emotional the eyes look and I love how when it is humourous they change the style to be much goofier to express it. What I love the most is how they convey emotion with the pulling of the coloured shadow and changing the background with that music.

Speaking of music and sound it is great too. Voices are well picked in Japanese and the sound effects have the depth that really puts you in the scene.

The characters mainly Hori and Miyamura develop heavily since this is primarily their story. You also get development pretty deeply for many other characters too and you see massive amounts of growth. Tanihara being a great example of a guy that has acted regrettably and is accepted and forgiven for his mistakes allowing him to change.

My favourite character Is a split between Remi and Yuki since they are both stories I want to see come to fruition. Remi's backstory was great to see too.

Episode 4 has a confession that was just spectacular and felt so real.
Episode 12 also has a scene that was spectacular too.

I can honestly say I cannot think of any part of the show that I did not love.

I treat every show as if it is the first of its kind to be fairer. Some people say it is much like Snafu and I get the idea behind that but it is a very different story about very different people but similar in terms of the flow and direction it takes.

This is no Snafu but it is certainly a memorable show. A second season would only go beyond the source or back to cover others so I think we can accept this one is over perhaps. There is an earlier similar version of this show too as an OVA that is spread over time.

10/10. A memory well kept.

Also, a side note since this show does it very well. When you date someone one sides family can sort of get left behind. Don't let it happen or just believe we didn't see that here.
