Review of Monster
Naoki Urasawa is a genius! From character building to delivering the plot, everything is good. People complain about the slow pacing of anime, but that's the freaking aesthetic of this anime. It creates this tension between characters, the plot and the viewer. And the music is just perfect. There's hardly any gory image or ghostly horror vibe, but this pure evil will send a shiver down your spine. The parallels of protagonist Dr. Tenma, example of pure good(I'd die for this man) and antagonist Johan(I never thought I'd be afraid of pretty face), a pure evil, the way they cross paths, have major effects on their wholelives.
The anime comes alive with all the little details, stories and character complexes.
It makes you think but also feel at the same time.
If you enjoy something intellectual, psychologically provoking and philosophically enriched then Monster is your cup of tea.
I wouldn't say its an underrated anime but maybe because some of people can't enjoy it because its psychologically demanding (I couldn't binge on this) that's why its misunderstood or left incomplete.
In my opinion its a 10/10
