I was expecting a fluffy, light read but was pleasantly surprised by the amount of substance in this story. Yes, it is a magical coming-of-age shoujo, but it also covers a much wider scope of different political/magical factions throughout various eras. Skyla's character was refreshing. She is young and naive, but also not interested in taking crap from all of the various strong male characters that she encounters. She has a backbone and motive of her own, and is not inclined to wait around for somebody to rescue her when she is in a tight spot - she will find a way to make things happenfor herself.

The art was attractive, with a lot of attention to detail. Lots of hair....lots and lots of hair....but overall very enjoyable to look at.
