Review of Ping Pong the Animation
Despite it being only 11 episodes long, Ping Pong The Animation is a rare and outstanding gem that will definitely be engraved in your memory. An outstanding story revolving around the 5 main protagonists of the series (Peco, Smile, Kazuma, Kong and Sakama) and their struggle to persevere through hardships and setbacks in an effort to find and understand the deeper purpose of the dreams they are chasing after. A story about understanding yourself and your talents, about changing, about moving on and giving it your all, about friendship, about confronting reality no matter how harsh it may be at times, especially when that reality revealsyour limitations. Defeats and setbacks, loss and grief, isolation and turmoil, anguish and despair, nihilism and ruin! These are the obstacles the 5 main characters will have to overcome in order to be able to accept themselves and keep walking, keep moving forward and reach their goals.
Unlike other sports anime, Ping Pong (the sport) is rather complimentary in this series and functions as a channel through which the stories and emotions of the characters flow. The music is outstanding and very memorable. The animation style is unique and fresh and matches extremely well the symbolic character of certain scenes. The characters are well thought and well developed despite the relative short length of the series. The story is well executed, it flows very well, there is cohesion and a very good pace, but above all, it is a realistic story.
Overall, an excellent, entertaining and very memorable series that you will definitely enjoy and will make you smile. Do not miss this one, it is a true gem!
