If you've read Poputepipikku turn up the comedy by a few notches, if you haven't you are not missing much going into the anime. The comedy is as mindless as it looks, most skits are short but just about every single one is a reference to pop culture/anime/video games/memes/etc. Some jokes went over my head but still got a chuckle out of me, I imagine everyone felt this way while watching Poputepipikku. Where the show shines in over the 4-panel manga is the animation. Many different studios work on various skits ranging from nicely drawn, poorly drawn, CGI, live acting, and even puppets. The episodes areshort and end at the half-way mark the rest is a re-run with different voice actors (Female first, male second). Some lines are written differently and some skits are done entirely different, so expect to see a gif or two online of a scene you may not recognize as it could have been from the second half of the episode.

Overall Poputepipikku isn't terrible if you consume a decent amount of Japanese culture, as you will pick up on some of the jokes. If anything it's a good anime to use for killing time since they're short.
