If you are looking for a good story or any unique concepts do not opt for Devilman Crybaby. Sure, the first episode makes you feel like you are on a ride of a lifetime, but the rest of the series thoroughly disappoints. The series' only innovation in terms of content is featuring Satan with boobs, which I later found out was in the original manga too. That being said, the visual experience is simply exquisite. If you are even slightly literate in animation styles you will love this. Sure, any of Yuasa's works is a visual trip but the dark themes of Devilman allows himto experiment with colours and tones he has never used before, especially the World War-esque chaos in the last episode and the entire Sabbath sequence in the first episode.

Although the plot and character arcs themselves are quite bland the pacing of the series is perfect. The fast paced and intangible style of Yuasa adds a whole new dimension to the carnage scenes. The tension buildup is solid (though short-lived, every time) and the music is on point.

Devilman Crybaby is a drag, no arguments there. But the few minutes in every episode where the show shines is worth every penny and more.
