I really wanted to like this one. The art direction, animation, musical choices, and tone were phenomenal, as expected from a Masaaki Yuasa project, but that's as much praise as I can give it. The story lacked any sort of development and the characters left much to be desired. It felt like it was trying to make parallels to fearmongering in government (i.e. the red scare, or today's political climate around immigration) but ended up relying on nudity and gore over any real substance. It seemed like there was passion put into this one, but it just wasn't for me. Spend your time watching othersin Yuasa's repertoire.
