Review of Dorohedoro
I'm really surprised to learn that the people who made the Sturgill Simpson music videos for Sound & Fury weren't the same people who made this. That goes to show my level of experience with 3D animation, but it was as much something to get used to and delve into as the rest of this crazy story in these ornately made landscapes and this fascinating fantasy world. It's gritty and bloody and doesn't loose any impact even with some things that could hamper it, that being the 3D animation and the regenerating-like ability for most characters, or at least they can take some hits. It kindof reminds of Twin Peaks in a way where there is a central mystery that the characters are trying to find out, but it leads them in all sorts of different ways, that are usually unexpected and funny as they are violent. Caiman and Nikaido change and end up in a much different place than at the start, but their goal of figuring things out about themselves isn't much clearer. I know there is an end to the manga and it will likely wrap itself into a conclusion, but the journey along the way has been fun to see. The second to last episode where things should probably be reaching a climax is instead focused on a pie selling contest, and it honestly works.
I don't have any big points or criticisms, but for a show that I watched because the characters looked cool and I wanted to see what the anime was about, it did not disappoint.
