Review of My First Girlfriend is a Gal

I think this would have been a 5 if the lolicon character were not as prominent They have a side character whom is a lolicon, and he is like a straight up pedophile. It is kind of uncomfortable some of the things he says and does. I understand this is for "shock" humor, but it just isn't for me. Some people like that though, so I won't dwell on this issue. This show is tries so hard to be an ecchi romcom, but falls short with story and characters and focuses too much on being ecchi and having fan service. MC and maingirl are the only two characters with real substance. All side characters are kind of worthless until episode 9. If it were not for some scenes in the last two episodes, this would have been a solid 3 or 2. There is a difference between being a funny romcom and trying to be a funny romcom.

I am extremely easy to please when it comes to romcom anime. If you don't believe me look at my list. Most average an 8 or 9. They are my second favorite genre of anime. This show is the worst romcom anime I have ever seen (as of 7/22/2021). Is it the worst anime ever? No. But it is extremely disappointing. The last two episodes are the only thing with substance. If you want to speed run this series, watch episode 1, 2, 8, 9, 10. You will hit all major plot lines that are important and save 2 hrs.

If you want a funny romcom, watch OreSuki or Hensuki. If you want to spend 4 hrs just to feel unsatisfied afterwards, then watch this show.
