Review of Hyouka

Hyouka is an overall great anime that most people will enjoy unless they dislike one of the characters or the mystery genre. The weakest part of Hyouka is probably its storyline. A storyline is mostly absent and there is no clear goal or overarching plot that drives the contents of the episode aside from the main characters and their affiliation with the classics club. This can make individual episodes or groups of episodes feel disconnected from each other which can be a bit annoying. On the other hand, the contents of each episode or small story are genuinely engaging and interesting to watch. The answersto mysteries are by no means immediately clear and the anime does a good job keeping it interesting. The explanations can be a bit hard to follow sometimes but it should be fine if you pay attention.

There are only 4 important characters in Hyouka. Aside from them there's a few characters that come back every once in a while but they're by no means important and the story revolves solely around these four characters and the things they experience. The characters all have depth, personality, an interesting dynamic and some character development which makes them a nice backbone for the story.

The animation in Hyouka is great. Scenes tend to be relatively dynamic and well animated. The animation generally looks pretty and is a pleasure to watch. The sound is great as well. There's only 4 important voice actors for the 4 main characters and they all help give the characters their personality. There's also lots of background music which helps a lot with setting the mystery vibe in the relevant scenes.

Overall Hyouka is a great anime. Even though it lacks a storyline, it has a lot of interesting smaller stories connected by the 4 good main characters. The animation and sound are both great and help make this a better anime. Most people will definitely enjoy this anime.
