Review of Land of the Lustrous
Extremely impressive cinematography, the animators use 3D to their benefit (as opposed to cutting corners) and at times will really flex their skills. The art direction is likewise astounding, some scenes would not feel out of place in a ghibli film. The characters at first can feel one dimensional but over time it becomes evident that there's longlasting development unfolding. Though for me the pacing of that development was sort of unwarranted, resulting in a sort of narrative whiplash at times. The world isn't really expanded upon outside a few instances, and the times it does are only really on accident while trying to buildthe larger narrative. There were a lot of times watching I wondered, "what's going on outside of this area?", but they never really dwell beyond what's happening right here, right now.
Would jump to see a season 2/continuation but I could see why this struggles to break beyond a niche following.
