Review of Recovery of an MMO Junkie
This anime was enjoyable~! Even though the story certainly isn’t the best, I enjoyed seeing it through! Gaah I was disappointed, though, about how Moriaka and Sakurai didn’t become an official couple in the end,, ;v: As for a more helpful review, I wouldn’t say it’s very recommendable as an anime. Despite the not-so-cliché characters, the plot is stocked with clichés and somewhat lame. Hayashi and Lily are especially h e a d s o v e r h e e l s for each other, and it can be annoying for the people who don’t like the ship. I was meh withthe ship, though, and I just came to like it! This anime’s also really open with spoilers, haha. It was obvious about Sakurai’s MMO identity, too (especially that cover pic, man!). I also found it kinda disappointing with how lucky Morioka eventually came to be, but hey, the SakuMori was worth it!
Attempting to sum up my opinion:
+ Morioka’s relatable and flawed character & appearance (i kinda even miss it-)
+ pretty nice art
+ the addition of a fat character
+ the creative way of showing online vs irl
+ the gradual unveiling and right timing used for Moriaka and Sakurai’s pasts being revealed
+ how nothing about how playing games 24/7 are all oh so unhealthy and bad was emphasized, yet how enjoyable and wonderful games could be was emphasized quite a bit but not too much in my opinion
+ the lack of skin exposure during that one shower scene (im srry i had to-)
+ good voice-acting (i especially love morioka’s sound effects and reactions omg)
+ pretty nice music
+ the unusually nice flow and progress in Moriaka and Sakurai’s relationship
- Moriaka’s tendency to quickly self-deprecate herself (which results to me thinking she must’ve felt like a huge burden at work, considering how I’ve lately been somewhat the same)
- too-flashy/big eyes? For girls like Lily and Lilac anyway
- the transition from online to irl can be distracting
- how obvious it was that Sakurai was ypu-know-who
- the coincidences
- Moriaka and Sakurai’s somewhat overdone modest/humble traits
- the way certain character tropes were accented (wasn’t it just mainly Fujimoto and his fancy Japanese house, tho? XD)
- some of the character tropes (idk man Lily and Lilac’s voices aren’t too much of my cup of tea, and I used to dislike Lilac’s personality a little bit)
- some of the times where the characters turn into chibis for silly-ish moments can be slightly-unpleasantly distracting
- all those clichés (saying things at same time, for example)
- the opening and ending doesn’t seem to match the anime very much (not to mention, too much of Molly showed up)
- Nico (i actually like her, but for some reason she was useless and pointless in the end,,, it’s a shame)(then again, himeralda and poko were just as useless-)
I do apologize for having more cons than pros, but then again, I said this anime isn’t very recommendable. I definitely want a second season, though! Please! I might lose interest by the time it comes out, though, haha T_T (then again, i planned to watch the third season of sao when it came out despite losing interest in it at the times)
Why don’t you give it a try? ^^
