Review of WataMote: No Matter How I Look At It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular!

*Brief Review-Reflections* ~~ WataMote defines an era of anime where meta and satire rule social media anime pages and blog posts and where protagonists deviate from the agreeability scale, self-aware of their own insufferable character archetype. This one's gimmick is told through the LN-styled title (and I was shocked the source material is a manga, not an LN) of being unpopular and blaming others for one's misfortune and paralyzing sloth, something the socially inept may truly connect with. I, for one, as part of the gang, perhaps have lost my affinity to overt role plays of the said issue done in the early 2010s characteristic presentation; notmuch lasting relishing of fourth-wall breaks, seamless OP transitions, ED variations and whatnots of an insufferable and depressed (INFP 4w5 like me btw) high school girl occurred when it's lacking backup of substantial supports.

I always had the impression that WataMote belongs in the hall of fame of must watches for "otakus" (non-derogatory) and it's a suitable show to acquaint with anime culture. Though the prevalence of slapstick and secondhand embarrassment sails together with sympathy-inducing moments that are heartwarming for our solitary heroine, the undetectable losses of aging and continuous media exposure removes me from a tight link with the show. Perhaps the greatest factor is the airy conclusion only showing a glimpse of change from an otherwise reasonably stagnant one-cour adaptation. It can sometimes get old, knowing there is no road being constructed beyond. Still, for the design of its own fate, it doesn't need to be more--its identity is pretty clear and secure.
