Review of Sword Art Online
Sword Art Online and how this work became one of my favorites! Sword Art Online It is a series of light novels written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec, with 28 volumes currently in Japan. In the story, we follow Kazuto Kirigaya, a 14-year-old boy who ends up trapped inside a game called Sword Art Online along with 9,999 other players. He then discovers that if he dies in the game, he also dies in the real world, and to escape, he must clear all 100 floors of the floating castle Aincrad. What do I think of Sword Art Online? SAO at the beginning brings an incrediblyinteresting premise where if you die in the game, you die in the real world. In its early episodes, and especially in the light novel, this is explored much better because the anime is also quite rushed in character development during this first arc and does not delve much into the characters' growth and real psychology in general and also the romance, which is the key point of the story, ends up being very compressed and summarized. Other things I don't like about this arc's adaptation are that there are many scenes filled with excessive fanservice (there is also this in the novel, but in the anime, it is very blatant). Your story is great, but the adaptation of this arc adds and cuts things, like episode 2 which is also an adaptation of 'Aria of Starless Night' from the first volume of 'Sword Art Online Progressive', a light novel that recounts Aincrad from the perspective of Asuna Yuuki, the main female protagonist of the anime, along with some points of view from Kirito. I think it's kind of ridiculous because it doesn't make any sense after such an amazing episode 1 to have an incoherent and disconnected episode 2. Besides, the parallel stories adapted for this arc, 'The Black Swordsman', 'Heart's Heat', 'The Girl in the Morning Dew', and 'Rena of the Red Nose' are much less well adapted than episode 1, for example, Besides episodes 5 and 6, which are adaptations of volume 8 of the novel that tells the story of the crime within the walls (when people mention walls, it reminds me of Attack on Titan lol), but getting back to this story, it's honestly something that was nice to watch, but nothing too spectacular. From the episode where Kirito reveals his dual-wielding, it really gets awesome, because the fight of Kirito, Asuna, and the front line against the Gleam Eyes is something that, for me, felt like cinema (not as much as the later fights like Kirito vs Quinella in Sword Art Online Alicization), but it was an overall great battle. After that, for me, SAO really starts to improve a lot because we have the part where Kirito joins the Blood Oath Knights after losing in the first battle against Heartcliff, which ends up being really badass because we also have the DESPICABLE Kuradeel, this deplorable human being trying to kill Kirito. This part is also intense because Kirito later develops severe traumas from the deaths of several players, both those he killed and those who were killed in front of him. Then we have the end of this arc, which I think is great because it closes the development of Kirito and Asuna as a couple in this arc, as well as the appearance of characters like Klein and Agil, who are great and important for the storyline in a way, since Klein has always been concerned about Kirito fighting alone, and Agil is important too because he and Kirito, in Progressive, kind of developed a relationship of friendship and mutual respect, with some teasing from both sides. And the importance for the final batlle this is a awesome.
Speaking a little about the final battle, I think it was an awesome battle, very well done and very well animated, and the strategies of Kirito and Asuna to defeat the boss were just incredible, like the fight itself. Now talking about the end of this arc after the boss's defeat, we discover that Heartcliff was Kayaba Akihiko, the developer of Sword Art Online, and it's simply a fucking plot twist. The battle against Kayaba was an amazing fight, as we had incredible animation, Asuna's supposed death was impactful and psychologically broke Kirito, and finally, Kirito defeating Kayaba was just badass. NOW MOVING TO THE FINAL SCENE OF KIRITO AND ASUNA, I THINK THE DUBBED SCENE IN PORTUGUESE IS VERY CUTE AND SOMEWHAT SYMBOLIC; THAT HUG FROM ASUNA TO KIRITO WHILE AINCRAD WAS FALLING APART MADE ME CRY BECAUSE I THOUGHT THERE WOULDN'T BE MORE ARCS IN THE STORY. So I think that Aincrad as a whole had bad things that I will never forgive, but there are also great things overall.
