Review of Fairy Tail
Story - 3 Fairy Tail is just "oh wow let's save the world" repeated over every single arc. And then the enemies are undefeatable, but oh wow Natsu randomly screams out friendship and protecting people you love and gets a random or plot armour power up boost and then...he wins. Just repeat that over 20 arcs and you have the Fairy Tail anime. Also nobody from the Fairy Tail guild will ever die, while you're busy crying over their deaths they'll appear fine within the next five episodes don't worry Art - 8 I did enjoy the fight scenes, that was the reason why I picked it upin the first place. The fan service is excessive and unnecessary.
Characters - 3
Each main character has one character arc. And then their character shall be forgotten never explored upon and remain the exact same through more than 200 episodes. They become incredibly generic characters who are only distinguishable by their quirks. Natsu is...loud and doesn't give up?? (or at least he says that he doesn't demonstrate it all that much) Erza is...scary and likes cute things? Lucy is generically nice and she's just used for fan service anyway soo that's about it. And Gray is "cool" and has a habit of stripping. Wendy is cute and shy. Nobody grows. Because at the end of the day, you could swap the characters around in the story, and it wouldn't make a difference. For example, Natsu beats up bad guys while shouting about how he's going to protect his friends and his friends are all behind him. Replace that name with Erza, and it sounds really familiar, doesn't it? And Natsu's also an idiot that is somehow super smart the second he starts fighting...yeah that was never dwelled upon
Sound - 9
The soundtrack is really good, the battle ones are epic and the emotional ones are sad. It really adds to the excitement or sadness (that will probably be wasted because they will survive)
Enjoyment - 7
The thing is, from an objective standpoint this show is terrible. The very first time I watched it, I had only watched two other animes before, one of which was a show for 6 year olds. So I thought if I went back and watched it again after seeing shows that are so much better I would hate it. And I did see all the plot conveniences and nonsense and lack of depth but sometimes all that just gets covered up by the emotions and for a second you forget about how this scene makes no sense and just enjoy it. Because all that speech about being a family and protecting one another and all the feelings evoked from the emotional speeches put in was actually fairly heart-warming for me.
Overall - If you can't turn off your brain while watching something, don't watch Fairy Tail. You'll be questioning every minute of plot armour until you get so fed up you just slam your computer shut. But if you're just looking for something that appeals to you emotionally, then I guess this could work? You might as well watch something that makes more sense though and has...better developed characters.
