Review of High School DxD

A lot of people tend to categorize High School DxD as the over the top ecchi/ harem anime that simply wasted all of its budget on animating the tits of the female characters, however I think that as anime watchers we should stop stereotyping and remove the facade that we have placed upon animes in the genre and come to accept the true dignity and beauty of anime's such as High School DxD. The human passion of lust and women is translated into Issei as he attempts to reach his life goal of "becoming the harem king" and this triggers a series of character developmentas well as a surprisingly good plot for a ecchi anime, with of course abundant boob action that you will see for like 30% of every episode. If nudity or tits just aren't your cup of tea, then i suggest that you stop reading and drop the series because trust me this anime consists of soft core porn left,right and center.

Now this well be extremely surprising but this anime has QUITE A GOOD STORY-LINE. Yes you are probably thinking wtf am i saying however after watching a tonne of anime's in the same genre i can assure you that that the storyline that High School DxD conjures is far superior to the likes of Date A Live and Trinity Seven. There is simply a lot more depth within the story as everything happens for a specific purpose and i found the presentation of these events were done extremely well with good pacing and context. In DxD we follow a high school boy and his two horny friends who show their love for boobs and girls just like typical pubescent boys at that age. However ironically Issei's love for girls is what gets him killed on his first date and he is then resurrected by demon princess Rias Gremory, hence exposing Issei to the world of Demons and Angels. From here we see Issei mature as a devil and contribute abundantly to the plot of High School DxD through both his boosted gear and his perverted conceptions which simply balance out a the storyline with intense and emotional battles and events as well a good serving of fan-service that we all love. However many do also question the originality of such a series and here is where i can to prove to you that Dxd is second to none. High School DxD is the predecessor of all other harem animes within the 21st century with animes such as Dakara boku wa H ga Dekinai and Shinmai Maou no testament, using the concept of DxD in their series.Plus the light novels were released way before most other Harem series so you can bank on its originality. Overall i found the storyline to be a solid 9/10

The Character Development in High School DxD is also on point as you see Issei mature from being a perverted teenager who got hit hard by puberty, to a hardworking and headstrong character. All the characters are versatile and served some purpose towards the storyline, For starters we have the exquisite President Rias Gremory whose traits are reflected in Issei through the close bond that they share. Moving on we have the sadistic Akeno and the cute loli- neko character of Koneko, both of whom have strong personalities and are simply aesthetic to the series itself. Then we have Asia who brings the aspect of innocence into DxD through her caring and soft personality which contributes so much to the character development of the other members and Issei. Finally we have Kiba who is the other male member of club that is a complete opposite to Issei in both personality and mentality and his character brings about the sense of normality within series. So in the midst of all the big boobs and nosebleeds i saw the characters all fitting perfectly into the plot of DxD as they each serve a different purpose (made through the analogy of chess pieces) and are extremely likeable from the get go. Perfect 10 in my opinion

The Art department was quite mediocre, yeah the character designs were quite good and "appealing" but they were too generic and the animation was quite average as well. However plus points awarded to sound as both the Opening and Ending theme songs are quite catchy even though I'm sure, some people would consider it JRock trash. The soundtracks used also matched the scenes accordingly, especially at the intermission where they show you two juicy frames of quality fan service accompanied with a nice jingle that would generate raging hard on's. So overall I would give the Art a 7/10 and the sound a 9/10

Now in terms on enjoyment, High School DxD is practically the best ecchi/haremi anime i have seen, almost everything about this anime kept my attention, from the big jiggling boobs to the intense fight scenes and of course the incessant comedy that Issei is able generate from almost everything he does. Yet despite all these external elements you can still enjoy a good storyline that is easy to follow and comprehend in High School DxD as well as make a connection to all the different characters and understand them as viewers. This was also the 3rd anime i ever watched so it has quite some nostalgic value as well. Easily earns a 10 from me

Overall i am willing to defy the views of all haters who think DxD is a pile of shit in the ecchi department and say that it is one of the best instead, hence the overall score i gave it being a 10. I enjoyed the series alot and have also watched season 2 and 3 which are as equally as good. I recommend this to anyone who can tolerate ecchi, because trust me you are missing out on truly one of the best series in the genre,
