Review of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is similar to Death Note, but with a different main character, setting, and power. When something happens in the show, Lelouch becomes Zero, and he has to fight the whole Britannian Empire. Although I enjoy the story, I dislike how it was executed. The main cause of inconsistency is Lelouch's limited use of mind control. This becomes important because of what happens later in the show. The issue is that Lelouch could have simply ordered someone to “obey every order I give,” but he failed to do so until the latter stages of the show. This is an annoying plothole.
It has a lot of different story elements including mecha, action, yuri, drama, comedy, magic and superpowers and so on. The writers introduced a lot of different things in this show including the Pizza Hut product placement.
The show is full of characters, but it’s not long enough to develop all of them adequately. By the end of the season one, you will be familiar with all personality traits but not why they are there.
It is a fast-action thriller you won’t feel bored or lose interest. I do not think it is rushed, but some people might say that. The animation is good, but there is one character who looks out of place. Apart from the mismatched opening theme, the choice of music gradually seems to fit in perfectly with each developing scene.
I like the show because it's intellectually stimulating. I recommend it to people who like Death Note, but I don't want to oversell it. It is serious and doesn't have much comedy. The ending of the first season isn't really an ending, so you'll have to watch the second season to get closure.
