Review of Hyouka
Note: There are no spoilers here. Only a gross review. Not intended to spoil the fun for others. For detailed review, please visit: https://theidlerinrapture.wordpress.com/2016/04/18/hyouka/ “Hyouka” is an anime that marginally melts the features of simple mysteries in the deeper layers of dramatic high school lives. If it was only about the drama, I would have dropped it out of boredom. Because too much of anything makes everything seem very much unnatural. That goes with the mystery too. If it was only dealing with murders or thefts or any vulgar crimes, then it could have easily been classified under a common heading and I wouldn’t have come acrossit so soon. But to my surprise, it wasn’t any of that. “Hyouka” beautifully portrays the mysteries in the backdrop of normal and natural high school incidents, something any average school-goer could relate to with their own small experiences. That is what differentiates this anime from normal mystery productions. It’s not about the complexities of the mysteries itself. Sometimes they are so trivial, that you would have hardly stopped to ponder over them had it not been taken to your focus. And, that, in my opinion, the best thing about it. “Hyouka” never tried for once, to create another Holmes or Christie. It just continued to elaborate some random details of school; finding mysteries of its own, and trying to solve that; and that too, without the perfection of Conan Doyle or Agatha. There are no real murders or complex puzzles here. The best that you could expect is the daily mysteries that we normally overlook in our own lives. That is something that definitely impressed me, the ideas.
