If they had waited until the manga was finished they might have made a decent adaptation. GANTZ has one of the worst adaptations I have ever had the displeasure of watching. It only covers the first 3-4? volumes of a 37 volume manga and then makes up a story to end it which is actually worse than the manga. It's bad.
