Review of Deca-Dence
The best series that isn't worth your time. Deca-dence is a weird watch. I'm avoiding spoilers, because this is a series best enjoyed without them, but let's just say there's a bit of tonal whiplash. Well, that's a lie. There's a lot of tonal whiplash. So much in fact that it ruptures space-time and the series practically collapses in on itself. This is two, very different, styles of story-telling mashed together. I know the creators were going for dramatic contrast, but it just doesn't quite work. Either story on its own would have worked, but forced together in this weird, frankenstein-esque way, it just takes youcompletely out of it.
Which is a shame, because each half of this story is legitimately good. This is a sad case where the whole is less than the sum of its parts and for that reason I can't think of any circumstance where I'd actually recommend this to someone.
There's worse action-adventure anime out there, but there's also plenty of better ones. The most unique thing about Deca-dence is the very discontinuity of tone that makes it not worth watching.
