The Awakening · review
General Plot: This donghua takes place in a futuristic fantasy world where a small percentage of people have superpowers (inherited). They have protected the world for generations from the shadows. However, a recent discover of a resource that has energy similar to that of superpowers changes the world. The resource and it's utilization created a divide: one side wanted to use it to give powers to ordinary people perfected through performing deadly human experiments and allowing for a future when those with natural powers would stand in the limelight and control the world, while the other side wished to continue their anonymous philatropic actions (heroism);however, the "evil" side won out leading to the current conflict in the donghua.
The story is a bit simplistic, in that it follows two different groups: an evil group who wants to control the world with their powers, and some who want to work anonymously as heros and don't seek fame. The powers are interesting and the action scenes are well-animated. At the very least, it is an enjoyable watch. The story and development could be better, but as an original work, it presents the story in a digestable way. There is one major problem with this near the end though, two newly awakened (or reawakened) power users were able to fight against those who should have had their power for decades after a short week of training. Other than that, most of it show was fine.
Overall, I think this is still worth the watch, the comedy is decent, though a bit childish. The rules surrounding the world are a bit messy, but if you don't think too hard, it is alright. There is an obvious lead-in to Season 2 (should it ever come), suggesting that the villain in this Season was either used or a pawn in a greater plan.
