I usually try to not let the hype get to me.Tokyo Ghoul and Parasyte was released almost on the same time and they were hugely hyped but after watching TG, I didn't watch Parasyte thinking that it will be the same as TG.After almost a year I finally watched it and have to say it's certainly a really good and enjoyable anime. Parasyte is about an unidentified species that descended upon earth and tries to get into human bodies as their host and take control of their brain. They Devour human beings as their food and try to live in this world.Shinichi is an average high schoolstudent who was attacked by one of this parasytes but was able to stop it before it could reach his brain. So,the parasyte takes control of his right hand. This show is very violent and gory,if you don't think you can handle blood than this is not for you.The manga of Parasyte was complete almost 20 years ago and it was a highly acclaimed manga. After reading it and watching the show,I can safely say it's a pretty damn good adaption. The story is very well done. It's not an original story. We have seen this sort of story before but where this anime shines is how this anime uses an already used concept and tackle it differently. This show isn't about saving the earth or the protagonist being a hero.Instead it's about the struggle of life forms on earth and how we all have to depend on others to live. The characters in this show are pretty much there to help the protagonist develop. There's the love interest Murano,The other hot girl who has a crush on him Kana(A very cliched character but towards the end of her arc was handled quite brilliantly),the other-other girl who has a crush on him Akiho and the other minor character who has a crush on him Makiko.Honestly, the female charcters aren't interesting and they are there just to move the plot with one exception.Reiko Tamura.Technically, she's a parasyte but she's my favorite character of the series.A very well developed character who draws the line of characteristics of this series and then there is our main protagonist Shinichi, who I thought was the best anime protagonist in a mainstream anime since Lelouch.I was thoroughly impressed how well the series handled the emotional change in his nature through the course of the 24 episode. The animation by madhouse is very impressive. It's not a big surprise though as Madhouse rarely fails to deliver in the animation quality. The musical score of Parasyte was really good.I didn't skip the opening track 'Let Me Hear' not even once.Though I felt the ending track didn't fit. There was a track in this series called "Next To You',One of the best used tracks in a long time. This track was magnificently well used throughout the series. The action in this anime was surprisingly good.My favorite moment in this series was the scene where Shinichi and Murano make love and NO I am not a pervert -_- We see hollywood movies use this sort of scene to give certain character's action weight and they used it not to only enrich Shinichi's motivation as a human being as he was loosing sight of what's true humanity is,it also gave Murano a very subtle character moment as well.Which was rather nice and that scene also played the track 'Next To You' on the background <3 A lot of people has a problem with this anime's ending.I,however thought it was very clever. The ending was a bit cliched but it served the message and the purpose of this show,"We were all born here on earth and try to understand each other as much as we can until we accumulate. We try to get close to someone else until our lives someday end"
All the praises being said,it's not a flawless anime. My biggest problem with this anime is how Shinichi communicates with his parayte,Migi.I mean how could anyone not see a creepy eye crawling out of his shirt? -_- And also many characters make stupid choices throughout the show.I also have a problem with how Murano doesn't even bother asking Shinichi how he jumped from 4 stories and still just walk around like nothing had happened also I thought it was a bit too convenient how Migi suddenly comes into rescue of Shinichi against the final fight with Gotou.
But all in all,Parasyte is a very enjoyable anime and a recommended one for someone who wants to binge watch an enjoyable show.
