Review of Aura: Koga Maryuin's Last War
Exploring the chuunibyou aspect of this story did open my eyes to the topic, but I just came to the conclusion that it's a serious mental illness. This movie would definitely be more impactful to me if I were in highschool. But watching this as an adult, I think the girl could have used some therapy instead of a classmate only. The story follows a guy who is tasked to take care of a girl who acts as a chuunibyou. It becomes clear that she isn't the only one to be this demented. Bullying ensues as she appears more in the school. The storytelling framesit well at putting to terms the illness. Although, I think there is some hints of absurdity added to the story. The latter blurs elements between what is real and imagination as the plot thickens.
Honestly, I would have liked more depth with the bullies because they seem more superficial. They are just bullies for the sake of being bullies. But in an hour-long movie, it was acceptable.
Overall, this gets a pineapple out of a classroom table.
