Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero

*COULD BE SPOILERS* I never heard of this anime and was looking for something to casually watch when I stumbled on this anime. To be honest, I really liked the first few episodes. Especially, because I didn’t know what kind of anime this would be. Four heroes are spawned in a different world where they have to defend that world from waves. Naofumi the protagonist and the Shield hero however, gets backstabbed and loses all his trust in society. For this kind of anime there are some ‘darker’ things than you’d usually see and I really liked it. His hatred towards society, people not believing him andhim training all by himself to buying a slave for himself could turn into a great anime with a dark plot, sadly as the episode progressed it just kept going downhill. I’m not going to say it was bad, because I enjoyed watching it. But that is purely because of the entertaining beginning episodes. He didn’t get revenge on a girl who falsely accused him of groping her, stole all his money and gear, and then also turned the whole country against him. I mean, it’s only reasonable to want revenge on someone like that. And then there is the shitty king who for (a very small reason) has a grudge against the one person who has to defend his country and tries to ruin his life. It just all doesn’t make sense. There is no character development at all. It's not explained WHY Myne and the second princess have such grudge against Naofumi. It just all doesn't make sense. This anime had such great potential but in the end it just didn't deliver. I saw that there will be two more seasons coming. Please let the writers make it dark again and follow the path of the first few episodes and it could turn out to be a great anime and not just some kind of fan service anime. If, however, the line of the last 15-20 episodes will be followed, we can only expect the worst.
