Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero
Lets jump right into it. This is a piece of art. Every anime is. And this is no exception. First of all, we got the storyline. Story 5.7+/10. This is the part you have to reaaally get through. Its one prime example of a generic isekai (travelled to a different universe, is it a videogame? No idea. It looks like it, yeah? No! Yeah!) It really contradict with itself as those point where it doesn't know if it wants to be a VR experience for the MC or just completely different universe. Those aspects exactly can be a little confusing and because of it youfail to get dedicately immersed into the anime. Ignoring that its your classic fantasy medieval with a taste of originality and creatures of different worlds and perspectives. It will leave a mild harem taste in your mouth. So pick your poison. Secondly we have characters. Characters 7,5/10. This is a mixed bag. The main character (mc) also knows as "edge lord" is someone teenagers can relate to. Kind of a weeb, but not entirely. There are the generic friendly swordsmith, the good army, the crazy eccentric princess and of course the Pope that always refers to God upon his actions. On the other hand we have a somewhat original (or not so well used) Raphtalia, and her story. On another note, we have the 3 heroes. That really, leave a mild taste in the mouth. All in all characters are pretty interesting and make the show enjoyable at best, and at worst they are just there. Next on the animation department. Animation - Art 6/10. It's once again pretty 2019 generic. There is a fair amount CGI. Which they try to minimize in most cases but its there and its distracting. The characters and pretty well animated with a wide range of facial expressions and patterns (especially the melate ones). Effects are top average and they don't impress in any case. Landscapes don't try to leave a comment or an impression. They are generic. Next we have maybe my personal favorite in this show. Music and soundtrack 9/10. One thing they did right, was to put amazing music to appeal to me. I think they took it personally at this point. The music is vivid and matches every single moment of the show, while the back it up with splendid sound effects (most of them not stock). The sound director overdid himself and the producer of most music you will hear is just fantastic. Search for his Spotify albums and be impressed. In the end, is this an enjoyable experience? I recon yes. But that is mostly based on your own oersonal taste and likings. I dont really enjoy harems. I despise them when im looking for a show to watch. But this didn't draw all attention on that. Also there a extremely small ecchi aspect. But so tiny that even if nudity really makes you feel uncomfortable, it wont in this scenario. I recommend it. But, whether you like it or not depends on you.
