Review of A Place Further Than The Universe
I had the luck of only watching great anime lately. The way this series shows the girls developing their relationship has got me. The characters were growing on me, each of the four girls, and Megumi (Maki's classmate). It's a heartwarming, well-animated show, essentially. Maki's will of looking for more meaning in her life, on one side and her insecurity on the other, makes her character very relatable. Add to that a very positive thinking, and you have someone very empathetic. Although Megumi is also an interesting person, she expresses her insecurity in a totally different way, more introspective, grudgingly. Again, very relatable, even more thanMaki, because her reaction is more common than Maki's, I think. It's intriguing to see the same problem be dealt with in two different ways, and better, clashing with each other. The show doesn't' choose a magic way to solve the problem between these two. It's a complex issue and, fortunately, is treated accordingly. This interaction is the highlight of the " A Place Further than the Sky."
The other girls who interact more with Maki are also terrific characters. Each of them has her unique problem (in the core, I think they are more related to loneliness in contrast with Maki's insecurity), and through the support of the others, they overcome that. The show makes their friendship feels real. They face all sorts of situations, laugh together, cry together, fight among themselves, understand each other, etc. It's beautiful, make us want that.
I think the show loses a bit of his antagonistic force with Megumi out of the equation, though. As I said before, the main four have more or less the same way of dealing with their problems: facing them. Megami, otherwise, doesn't try to do that. She runs off it. It would be more interesting if she joined the group. All in all, I liked the show a lot.
Obs: Sorry for changing the "Universe" for "Sky" when referring to the title, but I really didn't understand that choice on translation. It has nothing to do with the plot of the show. rsrs.
